Find out what actually happens when you apply to be a volunteer presenter on Bolton FM.

Bolton FM is a community radio station. That means every presenter is a volunteer. And we're always looking for new voices to join us on the air. The journey starts when you fill out an application here. We'll see and acknowledge your application. We'll invite you in with some other hopefuls, usually within six weeks of applying. That's usually on a Wednesday night at 6pm. As well as sitting in on the live Community Corner show, there's an opportunity to talk to us about you and what you could bring to the radio station. What we need is people with a connection with Bolton - from here, living here or working here. You'll be friendly, have something to say - and keen to learn some radio skills. We're happy to give you full training - usually in 6 weekly sessions on weekday evenings with a small group of other joiners. The way we organise our programmes is with a consistent sound on daytimes 0700-1800. The mainstream music is scheduled for you, and certain features (news, traffic, whats ons etc) scheduled. Sometimes we need cover on those shows when people are on leave. Music in the rest of our output is usually selected by the presenter. We have a variety of genre shows - eg country, classical, nineties etc. Wherever you end up presenting, we'll work together on the way to deliver a link/story/thought effectively to the audience and how best to manage and mix the different elements that make up a show. We're a broad church with presenters from all different ages, backgrounds, interests and skill levels. We're all about diversity of voice - so please don't assume all radio presenters have to sound the same! The training includes an introduction to broadcast law (nothing too taxing) and the technical skills you need in the studio. By the end of the training you'll be able to do both recorded and live shows - all being well. Then the fun really starts :) Maybe we'll see you soon?
