Bolton FM is a Community Interest Company and has ten directors on its management board who all work in a voluntary capacity. The management board has overall responsibility for the management of Bolton FM, ensuring we achieve our social gain objectives and company targets.
All of our policies, programming and operations are based on our social gain objectives, as originally laid out by broadcasting authority Ofcom under the Community Radio License Act.
Our Objectives
Ofcom Community Radio Order (2004) - Social Gain Objectives
- The provision of sound broadcasting services to individuals who are otherwise underserved
- The facilitation of discussion and the expression of opinion
- The provision (whether by means of programmes included in the service or otherwise) of education or training to individuals not employed by the person providing the service
- The better understanding of the particular community and the strengthening of the links within it

Dorothy Martland
Company Treasurer – Dorothy is the Volunteer co-ordinator, for DBBC market radio training charity. DBBC specialise in accredited training and socialisation of older people, and young people/adults with physical and learning disabilities, and mental health issues. Dorothy helps provide a safe and informal environment in which participants, many of whom have little experience of meaningful social integration, are able to explore their abilities, gain self-confidence and form new relationships.
Kevan Williams
Kevan has extensive experience in presenting, interviewing, commentating and compering. He has a passion for volunteer work and has shown an ability to encourage enthusiasm and personal development in other members of Bolton FM.
Cllr Frank White
Cllr White serves independently as the Chair of the management board and has a long history of championing community development and social inclusion within local government. He feels community radio is a way to empower the people of Bolton and spread accountability within statutory bodies.
Manu Mistry
Manu, a partner in Family Business MISTRY BROTHERS trading over 35 years in Bolton has developed close links with both Local & Business Community through running a Social club that served needs of all the Different communities settled in Bolton.
J.P for over 15 years, he has been involved with various projects over Safer Cities program, the 3D’s and Bolton East Regeneration. He has also served as a Director for Bolton Enterprise & Bolton Business Ventures. Manu also brings close links through his family business involvement in local monthly publication of Magazine ‘The JEM’ distributed to several thousand household in the borough directly via the Royal mail. www.thejem.co.uk
Ish Patel
Ish was most recently awarded the highest accolade at Bolton’s Diversity Awards in 2007. This is due to his lifelong work serving the BME community of Bolton through his role as Chair of the Bolton Mela Group and Director of the Asian Elders Resource Centre.
Alanna Rice
Chair of Steering Group – Alanna has a background in community radio programming, centering on young people and the integration of BME communities. Currently working as an Inclusion and Participation Manager for Bolton Lads and Girls Club, she works alongside children and young people from all backgrounds to encourage them to participate in activities. She has been involved in numerous short-term community broadcasts across the UK.
Malcolm Ngouala
Chair of the Social Gain sub-committee – Malcolm works for the charity BRASS (Befriending Refugees and Asylum Seekers). This is the largest of only a handful of dedicated charities in Bolton centering on the integration and wellbeing of refugees and asylum seekers from all cultural backgrounds. He is a strong campaigner for services such as language provision and cultural needs provision and works directly with refugees and asylum seekers on a daily basis.
Les Smith
Les is course leader of the scriptwriting course at the University of Bolton and is a published/performed playwright, having recently enjoyed a huge success with his play “And Did Those Feet…” at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre. The University of Bolton has a high intake of students from diverse communities. As such, Les is familiar with the differing needs of communities (and the additional pressures facing them) in order to help maximise their potential.
Andrew Dickson
Vice-Chair of the management board – Andrew is currently the director of a marketing consultancy and has founded several successful businesses in Bolton including St Andrews Travel and the Town Centre Management Company. He is also the Chair of the Chamber of Commerce in Bolton. Andrew brings an enthusiasm for the principles of community radio and social gain to his voluntary role as a director of the board.
Chrissie Kravchenko
Chrissie has worked in radio throughout her career, specialising in community development work through radio training. She is an advocate for the involvement of young people and women in the media, having founded the charity Women In Radio. Chrissie has worked on local, regional and national radio stations including BBC Radio 4.
